If there's one thing we can all agree on, it's that nothing feels quite as good as a full night's sleep. When you sleep well, it sets the tone for the rest of your day. You wake up feeling refreshed and ready to go. It's almost like the world knows when you sleep well: your morning coffee hits just right, the sun shines just a little brighter, and you've got a little extra pep in your step.

Your friends and colleagues may notice, too, especially if good sleep is becoming a foreign concept for you. If it is, you're not alone - according to the CDC, people around the U.S. are in need of some serious zzzz's - more than 1 in 3 Americans aren't getting enough sleep. Perhaps even more shocking is that 40% of people fall asleep during the day once a month, according to the National Institutes of Health. Experts agree that most folks should get at least seven hours of sleep a night, but in reality, most Americans struggle to get five or six.

While some ultra-rich CEOs claim they only need a few hours of sleep a night, that's not true for most people. In fact, your body and brain will hate you if you're not getting enough shuteye. If you're feeling sluggish, unmotivated, snappy, achy, sick, or just down in the dumps, you may not be getting enough sleep. And it may not be your fault - that old, dilapidated innerspring mattress that you're sleeping on may be the true culprit.

Fortunately, Sleep King is here to help you get on the fast track to falling asleep with the ultimate comfort of MLILY mattresses in Charlotte, NC.

5 Ways to Tell If You Need a New Mattress

Take a moment and think about all the different things that have happened in your life over the last decade. Maybe you graduated college or got the job of your dreams. Perhaps you got married or moved to a new home in a new state. But if you're like the average person, one thing remained the same: your mattress. It might be surprising to hear, but the average lifespan of a mattress is between seven and ten years.

Letting go of your old, worn-out mattress might be hard, especially if it's served you well over time. As with most products, however, nothing lasts forever. But how do you know when it's time to ditch your old bed and choose a new MLILY mattress in , NC? Here are just a few of the most common reasons that customers tell us when it comes to buying a new bed.

Pungent Odor

Pungent Odor

Is your mattress starting to smell less like roses and more like the dirty socks in your hamper? When your mattress gets smelly, it's most often a result of mold, fungi, and mildew buildup over time. There's not too much you can do to avoid this from happening, especially if you live in a humid climate. So, the next time you change your sheets, give your mattress a sniff. If it smells funky, it's time to upgrade.

Saggy Mattress

Saggy Mattress

If your mattress has a noticeable sag, it's a surefire sign that you need to get a new mattress. Mattresses sag because, over time, coils begin to weaken, and memory foam loses elasticity. If you lay down on your bed for a moment, get up, and your bed sags instead of returning to its original appearance, your mattress is nearing the end of its life.

Pain

Pain

Waking up in pain is basically the an thesis of what a mattress is supposed to do. Due to wear and tear over time, even the best mattresses lose their ability to support your body. If you've been waking up with dull aches and pains in your hips, lower back, or shoulders, it's a red flag. Finding a comfortable, supportive mattress like an MLILY Fusion Lux is of utmost importance.

Tossing and Turning

Tossing and Turning

Constantly moving side-to-side or switching positions in the middle of the night is a great way to get your partner angry. It's also a big sign that you need to consider buying a new mattress. Like the supportiveness of our mattresses, general comfortability also lessens with usage and time. Here's the truth: You shouldn't need to toss and turn to get comfortable in your bed. If you are, your mattress has probably declined in quality and needs replacing. You shouldn't ever have to put your sleep health on the line for an uncomfortable mattress.

What are the Benefits of a Good Night's Sleep?

It might sound obvious, but the #1 reason why people choose to buy a new mattress is to get better sleep. Sleep, in and of itself, is a bit of a mystery - somehow, our bodies just know when it's time to clock out for the day and go to sleep. But if you've been sleeping on a poor quality or dilapidated mattress for long enough, you might have become used to the feeling of lackluster sleep. If that sounds like you, we're here to tell you that you're missing out.

Getting a great night's rest is one of life's little pleasures, but according to experts, it's also much more than that. If you swear by limiting your sleep to be more "productive," you may be doing yourself a disservice.

Better Heart Health

When you don't get enough sleep on a regular basis, it can lead to serious heart issues like high blood pressure and even heart attacks. Why? Because poor sleep causes your body to release cortisol. This stress hormone causes your heart to work harder. That's great in some situations, but long stretches of poor sleep are quite bad for your heart. Like other parts of your body, your heart needs to rest in order to function correctly.

Boosted Immune System

Getting a cold is never fun. But if it feels like someone slapped your head with an anvil when you get the sniffles, you may need better sleep. When you get great sleep, the proteins and immune cells in your body have a better chance of fighting off things like the common cold and flu. Your immune system also helps mitigate symptoms like runny noses, congestion, headaches, and more. Without the right sleep, symptoms from colds and cases of flu will be much worse.

Improved Mood

Do you roll out of bed and feel like Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh? You're probably not getting great sleep. When you sleep well, you wake up in the morning feeling refreshed and ready to attack the day. Your energy levels are high, making life's little annoyances more manageable. And when you're not annoyed, you're typically not angry. When you're not angry, you're only a half-step away from being happy. So, put on our PJs and get to bed early on an MLILY mattress in , NC. Your friends and family will thank you!

Increased Productivity

Earlier, we mentioned how some people purposely lose sleep so that they can be more productive. On the surface, that makes some sense since you have more hours in the day to dedicate to work. However, burning the midnight oil again and again is a bad idea. Eventually, you'll start making mistakes that an afternoon pot of coffee won't fix. Instead of cutting your sleep short, try getting more. Studies show that great sleep is linked to higher cognitive function and improved concentration. If you're not purposely limiting your sleep, it's time to ditch that old mattress and swing by Sleep King.

Supercharge Your Weight-Loss Efforts

Getting eight or more hours of sleep doesn't mean you're going to lose lbs. overnight. But getting better sleep can seriously help with your diet or weight loss goals. When you get poor sleep, your body creates a hormone called ghrelin that causes you to get hungry. It also lowers the amounts of leptin in your body, which is a hormone that lets you know you're full. With great sleep, these hormones remain balanced, so you don't wake up finding for a sugary bowl of Captain Crunch.

CBJ Buzz: BBQ restaurant Bunn's closes after 85 years in NC; Asheville, Charleston among top travel spots

A tiny restaurant thought to be one of eastern North Carolina's oldest barbecue joints has closed, going the way many longtime eateries in Charlotte have in recent years.

Bunn's Barbecue is a trek from here — some 285 miles from the heart of Charlotte's center city, tucked into a century-old former service station in the small, Bertie County community of Windsor. It had been a staple there for 85 years and, for some vacationers headed to parts of the Outer Banks, a memorable place to stop for a bite on the way to the coast. A local TV station in the area noted the restaurant, located along the Cashie River and less than 20 miles from the Albemarle Sound, had even bounced back from multiple floods.

The News & Observer reported that Bunn's, opened by B.B. "Bunn" Weathers in 1938, was sold to Wilbur and Grace Russell in 1969. Their son, Randy Russell, who's been running the restaurant along with brother Russ for decades now, told the Raleigh newspaper he felt it was time for his family to step away from the business. He hopes, though, to see it carry forward under new ownership.

“Something will happen in the near future, I believe that,” Russell said, per the N&O, adding that he's been fielding calls from interested parties. “Bunn’s has been here a long time, 85 years. There’s not too many people around the area that can remember when Bunn’s wasn’t there. I don’t see it closed forever.”

Word of the restaurant's closing brought an outpouring of comments from local residents and and business alike. A journalist for The Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald recalled many trips to the restaurant — as well as many high-profile visitors he wrote about, including Gov. Roy Cooper — and detailed its long history. And the Old Colony Smokehouse in nearby Edenton, meanwhile, on social media expressed gratitude for the Russells and urged followers to treasure "classic landmarks" like Bunn's while they're still around.

"Local BBQ institutions are something that cannot be replicated. The sounds, the smells, the vibe, the people…. everything about them is unique to only them," reads the eatery's post. "There will never be another place like Bunn’s."

Asheville, no stranger to accolades as a destination, gets another nod from Travel + Leisure magazine.

Forget a passport — Charlotteans would only need to drive a few hours to reach some of the best vacation destinations in the country. That's according to Travel + Leisure magazine and its readers, who voted two cities in the Carolinas into their top 15 favorite places to visit.

Charleston takes the No. 1 spot on the list, maintaining the lofty rank it achieved last year as T+L readers enjoyed its Southern charm and city vibes. At a little more than 200 southeast of Charlotte, it's one of the closest coastal cities to here.

And Asheville, nestled in the mountains about 130 miles to the west, comes in at No. 9. T+L says its readers raved about the city's “fun and a bit funky” downtown, its arts scene and restaurants, and nearby tourist destinations like the Biltmore Estate and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

If you’re a Taylor Swift fan, you’re in luck. The pop superstar announced it’s “not the end of an era” for The Eras Tour, and she’s bringing it back to the U.S.

But the bad news: She’s skipping North Carolina…again.

The beloved singer-songwriter didn’t make it to the Carolinas at all during her 52-date tour this year, but that didn’t stop local fans from traveling to see her iconic performances in Nashville, Philadelphia and even Las Vegas.

But next year, after her international leg of the tour in France, Spain and other popular destinations, Taylor Swift will be heading back to the U.S. to perform in Miami, New Orleans and Indianapolis before hitting the stage in Canada alongside singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams.

Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan system is being used again to get tickets for The Eras Tour, which is now open for fans through Saturday, Aug. 5 at 5 p.m. Registration is required, but does not actually guarantee tickets to the show.

Stage 1: When registering, you will need to create or sign in with your Ticketmaster account, pick your preferred show, and include your contact information.

If you are selected, you will then receive a unique access code to buy tickets. If you’re waitlisted, you may get an invite to join the onsale later if any tickets are left.

“We expect there will be more demand than there are tickets available,” Ticketmaster says. “Ticket availability is limited. Tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis while currently available inventory lasts.”

Club Renaissance, the opportunity to view Beyoncé’s heart-stopping Renaissance World Tour in Charlotte, exchange looks with Beyoncé’s horse, Reneigh, and experience KNTY 4 News up-close. What gets better?

Queen Bey is sure to give you a show no matter what seat you’ve got on Aug. 9. From performing her own opening acts with songs like “Flaws and All” to the iconic “Just Wanna Rock” dance paired with “Diva,” Charlotteans, you are in for a treat.

If you were able to snag one of the coveted Club Renaissance tickets, you may be swarming with enthusiasm. And to help you prepare, the CharlotteFive team is here to “Cater 2 U.”

At Club Renaissance, fans are placed directly in the center of Beyoncé’s circular stage setup.

While these tickets are on the floor, they function a lot like a general admission ticket with standing room only. So, if you’re looking to be right at the barrier, you will want to arrive early.

Using Ticketmaster’s Verified Resale, you can purchase a Club Renaissance ticket for the Charlotte concert for approximately $1,200 as of Aug. 2. And, according to concert-goers via TikTok, guest services might just be able to “Upgrade U.”

Upon arrival, everyone will have the opportunity to grab merchandise. But if you’re headed to Club Renaissance, you’ll likely receive at least one wristband and a silver goodie bag. In the bag, you’ll find a Renaissance world tour hat and an electric fan, according to @queenbriyonce on TikTok.

You should also be prepared to fangirl as there have been some sightings of Jay Z, Kelly Rowland and more of Beyoncé’s close friends and family during the performance, as seen in a TikTok shared by @envyperu.

Concessions: “Regular stadium concessions will be available on all stadium levels within the footprint of open seating, including various food and beverage options,” Bank of America stadium wrote.

Spacing: There will be plenty of room to move around in Club Renaissance. However, if you are looking to get as close as possible to the stage, arriving earlier may give you a higher chance of finding your ideal spot to view the show.

While Club Renaissance is standing room only, having ample space to dance around will be dependent on where you choose to stand.

Live in the moment: Since you are so close to the stage, bring out your sparkliest and shiniest metallics because you may be spotted by Queen Bey herself while you’re in the Club.

And, please, remember to mute.

New Charlotte Catholic coach wants to put his imprint on NC traditional power

In December, when Charlotte Catholic approved his hiring as the school’s third head football coach in 50 years, 32-year-old Matthew Reilly said he was excited.

Then, he said, he was numb.

“The night the school approved it, we went and celebrated a little bit,” Reilly said. “I was walking out and I was like, ‘Holy cow! What’s happening now?’ My phone started ringing. I’ve never been more popular with cellphone calls.”

Reilly was given the reins to one of the biggest high school football dynasties in North Carolina history. He replaces Mike Brodowicz, who led the Cougars to five state championships in nine years. Reilly was Brodowicz’s offensive coordinator last season.

A few years before that, Brodowicz named Reilly as the school’s head junior varsity coach. He said he saw something special in the young coach. Reilly was 25-0 in three seasons on jayvee, and last season, he was primarily responsible for the new shotgun-style offense Catholic employed.

Since Jim Oddo came to the school in 1973 as head coach, Catholic has favored a Wing-T style, run-heavy offense.

“He’s a really creative offensive mind,” Brodowicz said of Reilly. “He’s got to fill in a couple of defensive coaches, and I’m going to be around to mentor. I’ll be behind the scenes helping out anyway I can.”

Brodowicz will continue in his role as assistant principal at Holy Trinity, Charlotte Catholic’s feeder middle school, and he leaves the varsity team at the same time as Catholic athletic director Kevin Christmas, who has been with the school and program for 28 years.

This season, Reilly will return 10 of 11 defensive starters and at least seven on offense, including junior tight end Jack Larsen, a Notre Dame commit who is the No. 30 recruit at his position nationally, according to 247 Sports.

“I’ve got all the faith in (Reilly) to take over the program,” Larsen said. “He’s special and he’s been in the program and he knows how to lead the team. It was a bit of a shock when Brodowicz left. I love Brodowicz. He did so much for me, a lot of lessons learned, but if anyone is going to take over the program, I think Reilly is capable of it.”

Reilly will take over a program where winning is the expectation.

Three years ago, Brodowicz was named Charlotte Observer coach of the decade. In his nine-year career, Catholic was 110-15 with six state finals appearances and the five championships. Until the fall 2021 season, the Cougars never failed to get past the first round of the playoffs under Brodowicz.

A move from 3A to the 4A class slowed the Cougars’ momentum. Catholic was 7-3 and 9-3 the past two seasons, playing in the state’s largest and most competitive class. With just over 1,100 students, Catholic is one of the smaller schools in the class.

“The talent-level and depth of teams like Hough, Reagan and Grimsley is tough,” Brodowicz said. “They went 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 at receiver and they’re good and they two-platoon. It’s hard to match up with that. But we’ve had a lot of success here. And I think Coach Reilly will be able to keep that going.”

Reilly will start his ninth year at Charlotte Catholic this fall. He grew up in the Cincinnati area and went to a high school, St. Xavier, that he said was similar to Catholic in terms of having large community support. He moved to the Charlotte area after graduating from college because he had family here. He got a job as a math teacher at Catholic and never left.

Now he gets to put his imprint on one of the biggest high school football brands the state has to offer.

“When I was in high school, my senior I was scout team QB,” Reilly said, “and I kind of always had the quarterback mindset. I do like throwing the ball. There’s nothing like hitting the big pass over the top. But being here and working the Wing T (run-first offense) as a running back coach for six years, I also learned a whole lot about the run game and the value in that, and being able to control the clock, stay ahead of the chains and slowly and methodically wear that defense out.

“So I can’t say I’ll give it up completely, but I think a little bit of the passing game will be in there.”
