The Golden brand is lesser known than some, like Tempurpedic. Still, it is a quality product with many foam and non-foam options that we think you'll love. Choose from standard memory foam, hybrid, and innerspring options while visiting our showroom in Ladson.
There's much more to choosing a good bed than how you think it will look in your bedroom. There's plenty to think about, from innerspring options to memory foam and even hybrid mattresses. At Sleep King, our priority is our customers. We pride ourselves on excellent customer service. We want to do right by you, which why we want to be sure you find the perfect bed when you visit our mattress store in Ladson, SC. To help you get started, here are a few tips on choosing the best bed for your sleep needs.
This tip might seem like a no-brainer to some, but it's important that you visit a showroom so that you can lay on different beds to get a feel for what you like. At Mattress King, you will have the chance to explore different styles, designs, and shapes, and mattress materials. Finding a bed online at a price you can afford is great, but you should lie on the bed first, not just look at it on a screen.
Here's a surprising fact: just because a mattress costs more money, it doesn't mean it's going to be a better bed. Sure, more expensive beds might have newer technologies and materials, but not everyone has the budget to walk into a mattress store in Ladson and spend $3,000. Figure out what price range you're comfortable paying and look at the best options for your bottom line.
Before you swing by our showroom and start trying out beds, it might be a good idea to measure the space where your new mattress will go. If your bedroom is on the small side, a king-sized bed might be too big. Similarly, a small bed in a huge room might make for strange aesthetics. Aim for a reasonable amount of room around your bed - enough where you can walk around comfortably. As mentioned above, get specific measurements of the area you plan to use. That way, you have peace of mind knowing your new mattress will fit in your bedroom.
This tip often comes down to personal preference. It will take a little bit of trial and error to figure out which material works best for your back - innerspring, memory foam, or latex. While your friend's and family's opinions matter, keep in mind that their mattress choice was subjective. What works for them won't necessarily work for you.
Also called coil mattresses, innerspring beds are probably the most well-known on this short list. Innerspring mattresses are often more affordable than their latex and memory foam counterparts. These beds are ideal for people who want a lot of support and a cooler night's sleep.
This material is known for its great cooling properties and overall comfort. With latex, there are no strange off-gassing odors like you sometimes get with memory foam. Latex mattresses are ideal for people who want a responsive, bouncy feel and may have problems sleeping hot.
First developed by NASA in the 70s, memory foam is probably the most popular material in the modern mattress market. Memory foam conforms to every inch of your body, giving you maximum comfort and support. Memory foam is also know for its anti-motion properties. Memory foam can be a great choice if you tend to toss and turn at night and sleep with a partner who wakes up when you do. Memory foam mattresses are ideal for people who need pressure relief, good support, and refreshing comfort.
If you have a bad back, it's crucial that you find a mattress with proper support. Slat and spring beds often offer plenty of support, but latex and memory foam options have come a long way. If you want memory foam or latex but find the support to be subpar, consider an adjustable base instead of a normal platform. That way, you can always sleep in a comfortable position that benefits your back.

Renewable Natural Gas Project Is First of Its Kind in the State
LADSON, SOUTH CAROLINA – Local and international companies in South Carolina are working together to directly reduce greenhouse gas emissions – a model for industry-led climate solutions.
The Mercedes-Benz Vans plant in Ladson, South Carolina, is now using renewable natural gas (RNG) converted by Charleston-based GreenGasUSA from methane captured at the McCall Farms commercial vegetable cannery in Effingham, South Carolina.
GreenGasUSA installed equipment last year at McCall Farms to capture the methane from its Wastewater Treatment Facility and convert it to RNG.
Through GreenGasUSA’s partnership with Carolina Gas Transmission (CGT), a BHE GT&S subsidiary, the renewable natural gas is then transported from Florence County to a GreenGasUSA RNG hub in Georgetown County, where it is injected into existing pipelines and made available to GreenGasUSA’s clients in and outside the state.
GreenGasUSA is a leading provider of renewable energy solutions by helping farmers, food processors and industrial manufacturers capture greenhouse gas emissions from their operations. Through wastewater optimization and anaerobic digestion, GreenGasUSA converts waste streams into Renewable Natural Gas (RNG). GreenGasUSA’s RNG is used by its customers as a zero and negative carbon fuel source to offset and reduce fossil fuel consumption.
“Connecting local agriculture with global industries on the basis of shared values around sustainable business practices is at the heart of our values and mission,” said GreenGasUSA owner Marc Fetten. “We appreciate Mercedes’ support of South Carolina agriculture through its commitment to carbon neutral energy solutions from McCall Farms.”
“Mercedes-Benz Vans is committed to continuously improving our environmental footprint,” said Axel Bense, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC. “The use of this renewable natural gas is one more element that will help us to further reduce carbon emissions from our plant. Sustainability is a key pillar for the future of our production operations in Charleston as we strive to create positive contributions for our local community.”
McCall Farms, a family-owned business established in the 1950s, produces Southern-style canned vegetables. McCall Farms sources nearly 700 million pounds of produce annually from farmers in the region, supporting local agriculture and helping make agribusiness the state’s No. 1 industry. Through its work with GreenGasUSA, the storied food business has entered a new era of climate-responsible operations.
“We are very proud to be a part of such an environmentally friendly project that helps like-minded entities achieve their reduced emissions expectations,” said McCall Swink, co-president of McCall Farms. “McCall Farms strives to promote sustainable industry practices that benefit our local communities, our state and our planet.”
South Carolina Commissioner of Agriculture Hugh Weathers, a champion of GreenGasUSA’s work to capture emissions from agribusiness, applauded the project.
“These companies are leading the way in reducing environmental impacts and achieving carbon emission reductions – and they’re strengthening South Carolina’s food and agriculture industry while doing so,” said Commissioner Weathers. “This innovative project shows us the path to a more sustainable future.”

NFL's Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday that teams were "sniffing around" on three-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Robert Quinn for a possible trade. The insider had a follow-up report on Wednesday morning, though, that indicates the chances of Quinn being moved are slim.
Following up on this from yesterday: The #Bears are not currently shopping pass-rusher Robert Quinn, source said. Quinn referenced some uncertainty in his interview and other teams have been monitoring, but Chicago is not shopping him. https://t.co/zlC42pydb8— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) April 27, 2022
Quinn was selected by the then-St. Louis Rams as the 14th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft and spent the first seven seasons of his career with the franchise. After a solid first two years in the league, the North Carolina product bust out with a monster 2013 campaign, recording what are still career highs in tackles (57), quarterback hits (34), tackles for loss (league-leading 23), sacks (19.0) and forced fumbles (seven), while earning First-Team All-Pro honors and his first Pro Bowl nod as well.
The 31-year-old Quinn made another Pro Bowl back in 2014 after posting 46 tackles, 20 quarterback hits, 13 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, a career-high six passes defended and a league-best five forced fumbles, before he was limited to eight games in 2015 and nine contests in 2016. He spent his final season with the Rams in 2017 before being traded to the Miami Dolphins in March 2018.
A Ladson, S.C., native, Quinn was with the Dolphins for one season and the Dallas Cowboys in 2019, before joining the Bears ahead of the 2020 campaign. Two seasons ago, Quinn played on a career-low 55% of his team's defensive snaps, registered a career-low 2.0 sacks and made just 20 tackles, but he bounced back in a big way in 2021.
Last year, the 11-year pro made his third Pro Bowl (first since 2014) and was named Second-Team All-Pro, after going for 49 tackles, 22 quarterback hits and 18.5 sacks. Quinn's 101.0 career sacks in 156 games played have him ranked sixth all-time among active players.

LADSON, S.C. (WCBD) – When driving down Stoney Road or Heaton Drive in Ladson, you’ll notice trash lining the street. But residents say it’s getting worse, and they’re not sure who to turn to.
According to Ladson resident, Amanda Collers, people have started dumping tv’s, mattresses, and even couches on the sides of the roads.
“We can’t get help from the county, getting it picked up. And we can’t collectively as a community, haul those things off,” Collers said.
Collers and other community members clean the litter themselves. They joined the nonprofit, PalmettoPride, which provides safety equipment for residents to pick up litter a few days during the year.
Aside from that, Collers said residents also go out at least once a month to collect trash on their own.
However, she said they are struggling to find help with the bigger items.
“A few years ago, we had assigned people who would contact the (Charleston) county when we had big things, and they would come out here and pick it up and now we’re having trouble getting them out here to have it picked up,” Collers explained.
When asked about this issue, Charleston County officials told News 2 Stoney Road and Heaton Drive are state roads. Officials said the county steps in if the trash is on private property.
County officials released a statement to News 2:
“If a property owner leaves trash for collection for more than 48 to 72 hours, then they are in violation of Charleston County ordinance. To address trash left on private property, residents can call Charleston County Code Enforcement. A code enforcement officer shall serve written notice on the owner of the property requiring the owner to abate or remove the litter within 15 calendar days from the date of the notice.”
Collers also said she and other community members have reached out to the South Carolina Department of Transportation. She said they told residents to submit work orders online.
On Friday, News 2 reached out to SCDOT about the issue. They said they hadn’t received any recent reports of litter, however, they said district employees inspected the area and removed what they could accommodate in their truck. They submitted a work order for the rest of the trash.
They advise residents to report issues on state roads at 855-GO-SCDOT or click here.

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - Dorchester County Fire Station 21 on Ladson Road is now closed while construction begins on a major remodel.
The $3.3 million project will see the station completely demolished and reoriented so the building faces the road.
Fire Chief Tres Atkinson says the new station is part of the county’s strategy for redeveloping the Oakbrook area. He says the new station will have four bays, office space, living quarters and at least six bunkrooms.
“This is a big deal for this area. I think not so much for the call volume but just the way this area is growing and the way it looks,” Atkinson said. “We really need to make it fit the ticket for the remodel of the Oakbrook area. We really need to make this more aesthetically pleasing, and I think it’s a win for both sides - for the fire service and for the community as well.”
It will also feature a weight room and a dedicated area for turnout gear. This is a decontamination area to purge gear of harmful chemicals picked up during fire calls. Many of those chemicals are carcinogenic, meaning they can cause to cancer.
The project is currently $300,000 over the original budget with construction expected to be completed sometime next year, although a more specific timeline is not yet available. In the meantime, the fire trucks and ambulances have been moved to other areas.
That has some people living in the area concerned.
“The new station will be great in the long run, but I am just concerned that they were not planning their coverage in the meantime,” said Fred K. “There are numerous apartment buildings being constructed within a half mile from here. How are we going to have the same coverage while this construction is going on?”
Atkinson says they moved the fire engines to Station 22, about four miles away. They transferred EMS services to a Summerville fire station one mile away.
“We worked with our automatic aid partners in Summerville and North Charleston,” Atkinson said. “North Charleston has two stations right close by. . . There really won’t be a big impact to the response times.”
Fred’s concern isn’t about distance so much as it is about traffic.
“I’ve seen EMS have to drive over the concrete medians they put down on Dorchester Road. It’s not too easy for them to get down this way in heavy traffic,” Fred said. “The areas they have to go through are some of the most congested traffic in Dorchester County up here on Ladson Road and Dorchester Road. There’s so much more traffic here than there used to be even from just a few years ago. "
Atkinson says they’ve done the math and can guarantee there will not be a noticeable change in response times.
“We’ll be on scene very quickly,” Atkinson said. “It’ll be a big truck, a big red truck and it might say North Charleston or Summerville or Dorchester County on it but we’ll be there in a timely manner.”
