Tips on Choosing the Best Bed

There's much more to choosing a good bed than how you think it will look in your bedroom. There's plenty to think about, from innerspring options to memory foam and even hybrid mattresses. At Sleep King, our priority is our customers. We pride ourselves on excellent customer service. We want to do right by you, which why we want to be sure you find the perfect bed when you visit our mattress store in Fayetteville, AR. To help you get started, here are a few tips on choosing the best bed for your sleep needs.

Visit a Showroom

Visit a Showroom

This tip might seem like a no-brainer to some, but it's important that you visit a showroom so that you can lay on different beds to get a feel for what you like. At Mattress King, you will have the chance to explore different styles, designs, and shapes, and mattress materials. Finding a bed online at a price you can afford is great, but you should lie on the bed first, not just look at it on a screen.

Determine Budget

Determine Budget

Here's a surprising fact: just because a mattress costs more money, it doesn't mean it's going to be a better bed. Sure, more expensive beds might have newer technologies and materials, but not everyone has the budget to walk into a mattress store in Fayetteville and spend $3,000. Figure out what price range you're comfortable paying and look at the best options for your bottom line.

Consider Bedroom Size

Consider Bedroom Size

Before you swing by our showroom and start trying out beds, it might be a good idea to measure the space where your new mattress will go. If your bedroom is on the small side, a king-sized bed might be too big. Similarly, a small bed in a huge room might make for strange aesthetics. Aim for a reasonable amount of room around your bed - enough where you can walk around comfortably. As mentioned above, get specific measurements of the area you plan to use. That way, you have peace of mind knowing your new mattress will fit in your bedroom.

Consider Bedroom Size

Choose a Mattress Material

This tip often comes down to personal preference. It will take a little bit of trial and error to figure out which material works best for your back - innerspring, memory foam, or latex. While your friend's and family's opinions matter, keep in mind that their mattress choice was subjective. What works for them won't necessarily work for you.

Need a quick refresher on different mattress materials? Here's a quick overview
Mattress Store Fayetteville, AR

Innerspring

Also called coil mattresses, innerspring beds are probably the most well-known on this short list. Innerspring mattresses are often more affordable than their latex and memory foam counterparts. These beds are ideal for people who want a lot of support and a cooler night's sleep.

Latex

This material is known for its great cooling properties and overall comfort. With latex, there are no strange off-gassing odors like you sometimes get with memory foam. Latex mattresses are ideal for people who want a responsive, bouncy feel and may have problems sleeping hot.

Memory Foam

First developed by NASA in the 70s, memory foam is probably the most popular material in the modern mattress market. Memory foam conforms to every inch of your body, giving you maximum comfort and support. Memory foam is also know for its anti-motion properties. Memory foam can be a great choice if you tend to toss and turn at night and sleep with a partner who wakes up when you do. Memory foam mattresses are ideal for people who need pressure relief, good support, and refreshing comfort.

Think About Your Back

Think About Your Back

If you have a bad back, it's crucial that you find a mattress with proper support. Slat and spring beds often offer plenty of support, but latex and memory foam options have come a long way. If you want memory foam or latex but find the support to be subpar, consider an adjustable base instead of a normal platform. That way, you can always sleep in a comfortable position that benefits your back.

Marching in: Arkansas gets Illinois in 8-9 matchup

FAYETTEVILLE — When Arkansas coach Eric Musselman met with the media on Sunday night immediately after the Razorbacks’ first-round opponent for the NCAA Tournament was announced, he already had been studying up on Illinois for several hours.

“I got the depth chart, I got the highlighted box score, conference box score,” Musselman said of the papers he held in his hands. “So yeah, some of us have been meeting for a long time this morning.”

The meeting time wasn’t wasted.

Arkansas (20-13) is the No. 8 seed in the West Region and will play No. 9 seed Illinois (20-12) at 3:30 p.m. Central on Thursday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. The game will be televised on TBS.

Musselman said he and his staff met Sunday morning with the belief Illinois was one of two possible first-round opponents for Arkansas.

The other?

“It’s not worth saying,” Musselman said with a smile.

Musselman said that considering Arkansas lost freshman guard Nick Smith for 19 games because of a right knee issue and he’s now in the starting lineup, a No. 7 seed was the best-case scenario for the Razorbacks. A No. 9 seed, he added, was viewed as the worst-case scenario.

“I think the 8 seed is very fair,” Musselman said. “That’s what we played our way into, so now you’ve got to go try to win an 8-9 game.”

The Arkansas-Illinois winner likely will play No. 1 West seed Kansas (27-7) in a second-round game on Saturday. The Jayhawks, who play No. 16 seed Howard on Thursday, are 15-0 in previous games as a No. 1 seed.

“Everybody that you would potentially play in the NCAA Tournament is a really good team,” Musselman said. “That’s why they’re in this tournament.”

Jay Wright, who led Villanova to national championships in 2016 and 2018 and a fourth Final Four appearance last season before retiring, now works for CBS as an analyst.

“I like Arkansas here against Illinois,” Wright said on the selection show when the matchup was announced. “If Arkansas can get past Illinois — which is going to be a great game — they match up with Kansas really well.

“Their length and speed, Nick Smith playing now like he is, they could give Kansas a problem right there in a second-round game.”

Illinois went 11-9 in the Big Ten to tie for fifth, then lost to Penn State 79-76 in the Illini’s Big Ten Conference opener.

The Illini are in the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive year under Coach Brad Underwood.

“Certainly Illinois is really well-coached,” Musselman said.

Musselman said he doesn’t know Underwood personally, but has watched his teams over the years and that they play with toughness.

“The Big Ten is a very, very physical league,” Musselman said. “A lot of close games, obviously, in the Big Ten, so they’ve been tested throughout the course of the season.”

The Razorbacks held an NCAA Tournament selection show watch party at Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux in Fayetteville.

When Arkansas’ name came up on the large screen TV the players, coaches and staff were watching, they erupted in cheers.

“It was exciting just being in there with my teammates, seeing what we’ve been working for from the summer until now,” Razorbacks freshman guard Anthony Black said. “Growing up, I think everybody really watches the tournament, whether you play or not.

“Just to get our name called and to be a part of it is special. It’s a good opportunity for us to win some games.”

Arkansas is playing in the NCAA Tournament for the 36th time and for a third consecutive season for the first time since 2006-2008.

The Razorbacks are 48-34 in NCAA Tournament games and won the championship in 1994.

This is the sixth consecutive season in which the NCAA Tournament has been held — it was canceled in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic — that a Musselman-coached team has made the field.

Nevada was an NCAA Tournament from 2017-19 in Musselman’s last three seasons coaching the Wolf Pack before he was hired at Arkansas.

“Unless you’ve coached or played in the NCAA, I don’t think you really know how hard it is to make this tournament,” Musselman said. “You can look when the brackets are finished at all the great programs and all the teams with a lot of talent that aren’t in this tournament.

“It should never get old for any coach. It should never get old for any family member of a coaching family. It certainly shouldn’t get old for any player.”

Junior guard Davonte “Devo” Davis has been on all three of Musselman’s NCAA Tournament teams with Arkansas.

“It’s fun, for sure,” Davis said of playing in the NCAA Tournament again. “Just knowing it’s my third time, and seeing [Arkansas’ name] pop up for the third time is exciting and I know the guys are excited because a lot of them have not been in this position. I’m excited for them as well.”

Musselman said he and his staff would continue scouting Illinois on Sunday night after getting an early start that morning.

“Break down with our coaching staff on their style and what they do offensively, defensively,” Musselman said. “What they do with special teams, on sideline out of bounds, baseline out of bounds.

“Then we’ll try to start formulating the game plan.”

Arkansas’ WNIT selection will mark the 26th postseason appearance for the Razorbacks, eighth in the WNIT. The Razorbacks have a 21-12 record this season heading into the tournament.

This year’s selection marks Arkansas’ fifth straight postseason appearance (counting the Covid year in 2020, in which the Razorbacks had a 24-8 record). Only three SEC schools have qualified for the past five postseason tournaments with South Carolina and Tennessee being the other two.

In the WNIT opening round, Arkansas is 6-0. The Razorbacks are also 3-3 in the second round and have won the whole tournament once before, coming in 1999 with a 67-64 win over Wisconsin in front of a record-breaking crowd of 14,163 fans. Overall, Arkansas is 16-5 in the WNIT.

The WNIT field consists of 64 teams, 32 of which have earned an automatic berth for being a conference’s top finisher, as did Arkansas, as well as 32 at-large selections.

The full Postseason WNIT bracket will be released Monday, March 13 at 1 p.m.

First we broke the news that an Alamo Drafthouse was in the works for Fayetteville. Now we know even more.

The Austin-based theater chain on Thursday provided several details about its plans for the new cinema and drive-in theater on the former 112 Drive-In property.

The new 38,000-square-foot facility will be part of a new 19.5-acre mixed-use development called The Aronson, which will feature a mix of commercial and residential units anchored by what will be the first Alamo Drafthouse in Arkansas and the company’s first permanent drive-in.

“Our mission at Alamo Drafthouse is to preserve, celebrate, and innovate the cinema experience,” said Shelli Taylor, CEO of Alamo Drafthouse. “Drive-in theaters deeply influenced the Alamo Drafthouse preshow, programming, and design from the very beginning, but we have never managed to incorporate a permanent drive-in into any of our theaters. We are beyond excited to launch the first Alamo drive-in screen in Fayetteville!”

The new theater is set to open in 2024, and will include both Hollywood blockbusters and first run releases next to independent and art house titles, according to a website update.

Karas Health Care offers family medicine, urgent care, women’s and men’s health services, medical marijuana consultations, and more.

Similar to other Drafthouse locations, menus will be available at each seat where patrons will use paper and pen to order food and drinks after pressing a call button to contact a server. Menus will include appetizers, entrees, desserts, plus full bar options including cocktails, spirits, milkshakes and draft beers. A kids menu with a la carte options is also available.

The Fayetteville location will include a standalone cocktail bar and outdoor beer garden with a view of the drive-in screen.

The indoor cinema will include a total of 800 seats across eight 4k digital theaters, all equipped with 7.1 Dolby surround sound. One of the theaters will include Dolby Atmos spatial sound technology.

All seating is assigned and can be reserved both in person or online.

To celebrate the news, Alamo Drafthouse will host a screening of “Cocaine Bear” on the 112 Drive-In screen on Thursday, Feb. 23 (no time was given).

(Hodges Architecture/City of Fayetteville/Compiled by Flyer staff)

The 112 Drive-In property was purchased for $5.5 million in August by Little Rock developer Dave Anderson’s CL Partners, according to Washington County property records.

“This is more than the best movie theater in Arkansas – we’re planning the best cinema destination in America,” said Anderson. “Fayetteville will be home to the absolute pinnacle of experiential moviegoing, pairing what is already known as ‘the best theater in the world’ with the area’s beloved drive-in roots.”

In addition to the Alamo Drafthouse, plans for the site include apartments, duplex and triplex buildings, a clubhouse, and restaurant/retail space that would be developed in four phases with the theater plans included in phase one.

Alamo Drafthouse first opened in Austin in 1997. Since then, the theater chain has grown to include locations in more than 25 cities. The Fayetteville project will be the 39th Alamo facility to open.

The 112 Drive-In held its final showings in late August after 42 years in operation on the property. With its closing, there are now only two remaining permanent drive-in movie theaters in Arkansas – the Kenda Drive-In in Marshall and the Stone Drive-In in Mountain View.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – DOWN GO THE HOGS! Jordan Johnson and the Central Arkansas softball team pulled off the biggest upset in program history Monday evening, downing No. 6 Arkansas in Fayetteville 2-1.

The Bears (14-5), who have relied on its pitching all season long, leaned on the senior Johnson for seven edge-of-your-seat, white-knuckle innings. And deliver she did, striking out seven and going toe-to-toe with All-American Chenise Delce, who was handed her second loss of the season.

But the game started in favor of the Razorbacks, the Bears went three up and three down to start the first, as Delce came out dealing. In the home half of the frame, Arkansas pieced together a single and two flyouts, moving the runner and scoring on a sacrifice fly.

Central Arkansas continued to struggle to put the barrel on the ball, going without a baserunner until the fifth inning. But Johnson and the defense held strong, keeping the game simple and in front of them. All season long, the Bears have been able to stay in a lot of close games on the back of their pitching and defense, and Monday was no different, as Central Arkansas committed zero errors while holding a team that hits nearly .300 to just .250.

Finally in the fifth inning, the Razorbacks cracked, walking Morgan Nelson for the first baserunner of the day. Delce followed that up by giving up her first base hit of the day, as Jaylee Engelkes knocked a high, looping single over the first baseman's head, allowing a pinch-running Bella Barnes to get to third. Subbing in another speedy runner, Erin Michael got over to second on a passed ball, putting a pair in scoring position with one out. But a pop up in foul territory and a strikeout put an end to the threat.

The Razorbacks countered in the bottom of the fifth, establishing a baserunner with one out. A walk and a hit batter later, the bases were loaded, still with one out, putting Johnson under the microscope in a titanic moment. But the senior, ever poised, dove headfirst into the challenge, inducing two outs to the infield and keeping the Hogs from extending the lead.

Still trailing in the sixth, Central Arkansas was running out of rope, down to the final six outs, but undeterred from its mission. McKayla Betts gutted out a full-count walk, opening the frame with a baserunner and a threat to steal. Back at the top of the order, Jenna Wildeman followed it up on a fielder's choice, replacing Betts on first base and one out. Wildeman moved to second on a single by Tremere Harris, and the Bears were in business. The duo moved to second and third on what was effectively a sacrifice slap, moving all the closer to scoring a run. Then, a mistake by the Hogs; a pitch slipped by the catcher, rolling back to the backstop. Wildeman, seizing the opportunity, sprinted home, tying the game on the miscue.

Now ahead in the count after the passed ball, Mary Kate Brown waited for her pitch, and sent a double to right field, putting Harris home for the go-ahead run deep in the ballgame. It marked Brown's fifth RBI of the year, her 104th career run driven in. The Hogs couldn't take control back in the home half of the sixth, going down in order to send the game to the seventh.

Central Arkansas would put runners on in the final inning, but couldn't move them home, pushing all the chips on Johnson and the defense, trusting they could hold on for one more inning.

Arkansas opened its half of the seventh with a pinch-hit single. A couple of batters later, now with one out, a fly ball to right field moved the runner to second. Walking the next batter, Arkansas' hopes rested on its first baseman Cylie Halvorsen, in the four-spot, already 0-for-2 with a strikeout. Battling to a 2-2 count, Johnson put a pitch right in the zone, and Halvorson swung right over the top of it, ending the game and sending the Bears into absolute pandemonium.

Monday's win marked the highest-ranked win in program history after setting the mark last season against then No. 14 LSU. It was also the first win against the Razorbacks in team history, having lost the first four by a combined five runs.

The Bears go back on the road this weekend, playing in a tournament hosted by the Kansas Jayhawks. There, Central Arkansas will face another top-10 team in Stanford, playing the Cardinal and Jayhawks two times each.

Nine-Run Inning Propels Hogs to Series Sweep

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – No. 8 Arkansas (13-2) used a nine-run third inning to bury Louisiana Tech (8-7) early and never looked back, completing the weekend series sweep with a 15-6 win on Sunday afternoon at Baum-Walker Stadium.

The Razorbacks, winners of eight straight games, have won 26 consecutive non-conference home weekend series dating back to the 2014 season. Arkansas’ three-game series sweep was its second in as many weekends.

Louisiana Tech took advantage of an error and jumped out to a three-run lead in the top half of the second, but the Bulldogs’ hot start would quickly cool off. Arkansas scored a run on an error in the bottom of the second before breaking through for nine runs in the third to open a commanding 10-3 lead.

Jared Wegner and Kendall Diggs each hit two-run homers during the offensive onslaught in the third. Wegner’s homer was his team-leading seventh of the year, while Diggs’ blast was his second in as many games and sixth of the season.

Five consecutive walks resulted in three runs before Brady Slavens drove home two more with a single to center. The nine-run third inning gave Razorback starter Hunter Hollan all the support he needed to finish his outing strong.

Hollan twirled five innings of two-hit ball, allowing three runs (one earned) while striking out a season-high seven. The left-hander improved to 3-0 in the win, lowering his season ERA to 2.18 over 20 2/3 innings on the year.

Offensively, four Razorbacks finished with multiple hits and five carded multiple RBI in the win. Wegner, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, drew five walks to match a single-game school record held by Jake Dugger (vs. Alabama, 2006) and Jim Kremers (vs. Northwest Missouri State, 1985).

Tavian Josenberger extended his team-leading hit streak to eight games, racking up a pair of base knocks, including a double, and an RBI with two runs scored and three walks. Peyton Stovall’s seven-game hit streak came to an end in Sunday’s win, but the Razorback captain still managed to drive in three runs.

Jace Bohrofen, meanwhile, continued to rake, going 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a walk. He raised his season slash line to a team-leading .447/.578/.872 in Sunday’s win and now has 15 runs batted in through the Hogs’ first 15 games.

In relief of Hollan, right-handers Cody Adcock (2.0 IP), Gage Wood (1.0) and Christian Foutch (1.0) closed out the final four frames. Wood, a native of Batesville, Ark., struck out three of the four batters he faced, while Foutch, who was making his collegiate debut, logged a strikeout in his scoreless inning of work.

Arkansas’ final tune-up before SEC play comes against UNLV. The Hogs will host the Rebels in a two-game midweek series, which gets underway at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, at Baum-Walker Stadium.
